How to verify a mortgage license (NMLS number search)

Every loan originator and mortgage company in the U.S. has an NMLS number. Search it at nmlsconsumeraccess.org to see licenses, states, and any disciplinary history. Washington also lists licensees at the Department of Financial Institutions.
